R.I.S.E. Sunday 2018

We are gearing up for R.I.S.E. Sunday, a special morning of worship and hands-on mission projects here at St. John's.
This page will serve as your information station for all things R.I.S.E.!

You may now sign up for a project, both in the Narthex at church and online. If you wish to sign up online, you may do so by clicking the link below. We will do our best to synchronize the paper sign-up list with the online list to avoid problems. Due to space constraints and the overwhelming popularity of the Rise Against Hunger, we are asking everyone to please only sign up for one Rise Against Hunger shift at this time, and to sign up for a shift with another of the project options. This should allow everyone the opportunity to do Rise Against Hunger (if they want to), while also encouraging everyone to broaden their mission horizons.

PLEASE NOTE: Children/Youth aged 8 and up may participate in any activity with parental supervision, or they may sign up to participate with the Youth Group (contact David Bigam) or with the Children’s Project (sign up online or in the Narthex). Also, children may choose to participate with a parent for one shift and with the Children's Project for a second shift.

We will have five different mission projects, with two work sessions, so you can have the chance to work on two different projects.
We will also have a children's project and game time. The projects are as follows:

  • Making 60 pillowcase dresses for distribution by missionaries who work with Little Dresses for Africa
  • Preparing and assembling 90 necessities kits for homeless and runaway Bucks County youth and young adults, for distribution by outreach workers at The Synergy Project
  • Making 750 peanut butter & jelly sandwiches and packing them into bagged lunches (along with other items) for distribution at Trenton Area Soup Kitchen
  • Rolling 4,000+ sets of plastic cutlery into paper napkins for use at meals served at Trenton Area Soup Kitchen
  • Packaging 13,482 dried meals for international hunger relief organization Rise Against Hunger.
  • Children's Project: Decorating paper bags for the bagged lunches, helping to assemble bagged lunches, and game time/movie time (depending on weather).

In the meantime, you can help in the following other ways:

We are seeking material donations for the various mission projects, and you can sign up either using the paper insert in Sunday's bulletin or online. To sign up to donate materials online, click here.

You can also help by attending our fundraising dinner at the Warminster Chipotle (25 Street Road West) on Sunday, 9/30. All you have to do is go to Chipotle on that date, anytime between 4:00 and 8:00 PM, and dine in or take out, and tell them you are there for the St. John's fundraiser. If we generate $300 in total sales during that time, Chipotle will give us 33% of that total, so please share this event with your friends, too!

We have begun taking orders for R.I.S.E. Sunday T-shirts! We ended up changing suppliers in order to ensure we can receive our shirts before R.I.S.E. Sunday in case anyone wants to wear them on the big day. The great news is that the price has gone down, and we are also now supporting a Philadelphia screenprinting business with our order! Shirts are Gildan brand and are $10 each. The ink color will always be white, but you can choose from a plethora of colors. We recommend against light colors because the ink won't show up very well, however. For color options, see here for youth t-shirts and here for adult t-shirts. You may place your order before or after church services, or by contacting Lara Bolte at 215-357-6998 ext. 309 or

And, of course, you can always donate funds by using the pink envelopes in the pew racks at church and designating "RISE Sunday" on them. September's communion offering will also benefit RISE Sunday, as well.

Lastly, if you own or are connected to a business that might be able to donate materials or funds for these mission projects, please contact Lara Bolte at 215-357-6998 or
